Why it matters
Indigenous capability, protected.
Every component of the instrument programme: shielding technology, scintillators, detector electronics and the detection software: was developed at Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning rather than sourced abroad.
That matters for two reasons. It is what makes an instrument ten times cheaper than the market possible in the first place. And it means the intellectual property arising from the work stays where the work was done.
“His work has led to filings of patents, and few more are in the works.”
